You are hereby called to the California San Diego Mission.
My good friend Chad and I had been planning a road trip to San Diego for months. We finally went on that trip last weekend. We decided to go without our wives simply to save a few bucks. We slept on the couches of a good member family, the Pipers, something we would not have been able to do had we brought our families.
Your mission area is never the same when you go back to visit it. Our plan was to walk the streets of our areas and just reminisce in the thoughts of those good ol' days. It was a little disappointing, because not many families that we taught still in San Diego. But, we did have plenty of things to fill our time with.
On Saturday morning (we arrived late Thurday night in S.D.) we went through the San Diego temple. Such a gorgeous temple. Just in the bottom of this picture you can see the heads of the various wedding parties that we in attendance.
That night we went to the Chargers vs. Packers pre-season game. The Chargers had a sizable lead at halftime, so we left a little early to avoid the traffic nightmare that was sure to ensue.
It was "Salute to the Military" night at Qualcomm Stadium that night, and this HUGE (as in So I Married an Axe Murderer huge) flag was part of the "festivities."
Of course, no trip to southern California would be complete without a visit to Disneyland. Here we are posing with Belle and the Beast. Disneyland was a lot of fun (and the Pipers bought our tickets for us).
As you can tell from the earlier blog entries, Jayne was in Idaho while we were in California, so she wasn't all by herself. All in all, Chad and I both felt like this would be the last trip to the "mish" for quite some time.
